Qingming Festival is when Chinese traditionally visit ancestral tombs to spruce them up. For thousands of years, the Chinese imperials, nobility, merchants and peasantry alike have gathered together to remember the lives of the departed, to visit their tombstones to pray for their ancestors and to offer remembrances of their ancestors. The Qingming Festival is a form of posthumous respect and filial piety offered to a Chinese person's ancestors, departed relatives, or parents. Buddhism advocates that one should accrue merits for ancestors by providing Dana in the ancestor's name. One could also observe precepts and participate in pujas organised by monasteries.
